PARKVILLE, Mo. – The 21st-ranked Park University softball team kept up the offensive pressure for two games on Friday, sweeping past the Lyon College Scots, 8-0 and 12-0, in a pair of five-inning contests that ended the Lyon season in the opening round of the American Midwest Conference Postseason Softball Tournament at the Softball Complex.

The setbacks ended a frustrating season for Lyon College, which went through a coaching change during the middle of the season. The Scots could never get much momentum established, as they finished the year with an 11-39 record.

Park University (28-6) will advance to the semifinals next Thursday as they await the other survivors from the best-of-three round. The series between Harris-Stowe State University (8-26) and No. 4-ranked Williams Baptist (38-4) was postponed until Saturday, because of rain. The teams will play one game Saturday at 12-noon and finish on Monday, beginning at 2 p.m.

ST. The Scots dropped a 1-0 decision in the opener, before grabbing a 5-4 decision in the finale.

The Scots, who now own an 11-35 overall mark, finished AMC play with a 4-12 record, which is good enough for no worse than the eighth and final seed in the upcoming league tourney. Harris-Stowe is 7-25 and 3-12 in AMC play. The Hornets currently sit in eighth place in the conference, while Lyon is in seventh.

The top eight teams in the regular season qualify for the tournament, which is set to begin later this week.

BATESVILLE, Ark. – Columbia College kept its American Midwest Conference record unblemished on Saturday as the Cougars used a no-hit performance from Taylor Richter in Game 1 and 11 hits in Game 2 to sweep the Lyon College softball team, 12-0 and 7-2, at Howard & Mary House Field.

Richter came within a walk of a perfect game in the circle. And even though the Scots' bats came alive for 10 hits in Game 2, four errors hurt the Lyon College as it attempted to gain the split.

The Cougars (9-12, 4-0 AMC) and No. 5-ranked Williams Baptist College (30-2, 10-0 AMC) continue to be the only unbeaten teams in the conference. WBC swept Hannibal-LaGrange University (12-12, 7-3 AMC), 15-0 and 14-0, on Saturday to hold a one-game lead over second-place and No. 18-ranked Park University (21-3, 9-1 AMC). Columbia is three games back of the Lady Eagles.
