BATESVILLE, Ark. – Lyon College junior infielder Valerie Howell had a strong opening weekend at the dish and helped the Scots softball team to a Consolation win at the Lyon College Southern Bank Classic held at Howard & Mary House Field. For her effort, Howell has been honored as the Lyon College Featured Athlete of the Week for contests played between Feb. 11-17. One of her home runs helped lift the Scots (1-3) to a 10-7 win over Davenport University in the Consolation game of the Southern Bank Classic, when she tagged a grand slam over the leftfield fence. It was her second home run in as many days for Lyon.
She connected with a two-run shot in the opening game of the season against the same Davenport team. For the season she's hitting .545, with seven RBIs and a .583 on-base percentage.
