Lyon College men's basketball signs Jordan McAllister of Panama City, Florida. The 5'10 point guard comes to Lyon from Holmes County High School in Bonifay, Florida. McAllister averaged 15 points, 6 assists, and 3 rebounds, and 2 steals per game. McAllister played club for the Hamareebee Dragons, Gulf Coast Panic, Atlanta Express, and the Panama City Elite. In 2009 McAllister was on the YBOA National All-Tournament team in Lakeland, Florida. In 2012 McAllister competed in the Freedom All-Star Classic, was in the 2012 Florida Panhandle All-Star Game. McAllister was team captain for his high school team as well as AAU team Captain for two different teams, and was a scholar athlete of the week on WMBB TV 13. 

McAllister was also an Honors Graduate,a member of the Drama Club, and AICE Honors Selectee. McAllister plans to major in Business and Economics at Lyon.

Lyon College Basketball Camps

Lyon College will be having six basketball camps during the months of June and July. Fundamentals of shooting, ball handling, rebounding, and individual offensive and defensive skills will be taught. The camp will also teach team play with competitions daily. The camps will have great coach/player ratios. Lyon College coaches, players, and high school coaches will instruct the camps. There will be different age groups at each camp. Each camper will receive a camp T-shirt, camp ball, secondary camp insurance, complimentary pass to all 2012-13 home Scot games, swimming after camp activities, prizes and awards. The weeks and age groups for each camp are June 4-7---Elementary/Middle School Camp for girls and boys entering the 2nd - 6th grades--$75.00; June 11-14---Jr.- Sr. High Boys Camp for boys entering the 7th - 12th grades--$250.00 resident camper, $200 non-resident camper with meals, $150.00 non-resident camper; July 14th - Girls Shooting Camp for girls entering the 5th - 12th grades--$60.00 camper; July 15th-18th--Jr.-Sr. High Girls Camp for girls entering the 7th - 12th grades--$250.00 resident camper, $200 non-resident camper with meals, $150.00 non-resident camper; July 16th-19th ---Elementary/Middle School Camp for girls entering the 2nd - 6th grades--$75.00; and July 18th - 20th ---Jr.-Sr. Boys Team Camp.

The Scots add JaeLynn Ellison a native of Forsyth, Missouri to the 2012-2013 softball season. Ellison is the daughter of Jeff and Karen Ellison. She graduated from Hollister High School in 2010. Ellison comes to Lyon from Labette Community College. While at Labette her freshman year, Ellison's team was KJCCC Conference Champions, Region VI District D Champions, made their first trip to the NJCAA Division II National Tournament, had their best National ranking at 5th, has been in the top 20 National poll for the last two years, and had a record of 17-5. As a sophomore Ellison made 22 appearances, 122.1 innings pitched, had a record of 12-3 with 2 saves, 46 strikeouts and an ERA of 1.71. Ellison also made Honorable Mention All-Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference and Region VI District D Runner-Up. 




Fri, May 11, 2012 - [Men's Basketball]

Alex Kieffer of Pocahontas, Arkansas signs with Lyon to play men's basketball for the 2012-2013 season. Kieffer averaged 12.9 point and 5 rebounds per game, shot 57% from the field, and 37% from the 3 point line. Kieffer was a 4A All-conference player his senior year. He was also named All-Tournament at the Williams Baptist College Tournament.

Head coach Kevin Jenkins stated: "We are excited to have a former student athlete's son on the team. He will be a good addition and a great fit for Lyon. He will make an impact in the power forward for us."

Wed, May 9, 2012 - [Golf]

Emily Johnson of Calico Rock has signed to play golf at Lyon College. Johnson was an All-State golfer at Calico Rock and won the 2A state tournament her junior year.

Head Coach Julie Church stated: "Emily will be a great addition to our golf program. She will be able to step in right away and contribute as a freshman. Emily has a great work ethic and is a good student. She had a great high school career and I look forward to her joining our team."

Mon, May 7, 2012 - [Men's Basketball]

Head men's basketball coach Kevin Jenkins adds Trevor Martin to the 2012 class. The 6'2 guard is a native of Vilonia, Arkansas. Martin averaged 22.5 points per game, 6 rebounds, and shot 86% from the freethrow line. Martin is a 5A All-State player, two time 5A All -Conference, named the #1 player in Central Arkansas in the Central AR Hoops Magazine, named player of the game in the St. Joseph Classic. Martin was also named player of the game in the Central Arkansas Classic. Martin was also a two-time All-State Track member.

Head coach Kevin Jenkins stated "We are very excited that Trevor will be joining the Scots next season. He is the type of student athlete we need here at Lyon. Trevor put up good numbers in high school and we are looking for him to continue that success at Lyon".

PULASKI, Tenn. - The 2012 TranSouth Conference softball postseason honors have been released. Union University standout Shelby Lamb was voted as the TranSouth Player of the Year, as Union also claimed Pitcher and Freshman of the Year awards in hurling duo Brooke Thomas and Kelly Robey, and the Coach of the Year nod with Heather Hall. Martin Methodist's Veronika Fukunishi was named Newcomer of the Year, as the first and second team all-conference awards were also announced. These awards will be presented during a ceremony following Wednesday's 5:00 pm games in the conference tournament, which starts Wednesday, May 2 at the West Tennessee Healthcare Sportsplex in Jackson, Tennessee.
Lamb, a sophomore outfielder from Shelbyville, Tennessee, sat atop the TranSouth as the league's best hitter with a .477 batting average, 11th in the NAIA, and 73 hits during the regular season. With 19 doubles as a sophomore which ranked her 12th nationally, Lamb drove in 44 runs.
Thomas, a junior from Huntingdon, Tennessee, was the only 20-win pitcher in the TranSouth this season, and was a 2012 Player of the Week. Thomas struck out a conference-high 194 batters on the season in 171.2 innings pitched, and held opposing batters to a .186, boasting a 2.16 ERA.
Robey, a pitcher from New Madrid, Missouri, was a three-time TranSouth Pitcher of the Week and once an NAIA Player of the Week during her freshman campaign at Union. Robey's 1.96 ERA was Union's best, as she compiled an 18-4 record, and led the league with 10.68 strikeouts per game.
Fukunishi, a junior catcher from Brazil, led the TSAC with 46 RBI during the regular season, and was third in batting average with a .395. In her first season as a RedHawk, Fukunishi was a two-time TSAC Player of the Week, tallying a .619 slugging percentage with 58 hits, 13 doubles and six homeruns.
Hall earned her first Coach of the Year award 41-10 overall record, including a 25-3 TranSouth mark. Hall's Bulldogs are currently ranked No. 13 in the latest poll, and were this season's regular season conference champions.

Jackson, TN. - 5/3/2012- The Lyon College softball team took on the Toppers of Blue Mountain College in their second round of TranSouth Conference Tournament and were defeated 6-2.

The Scots were led by Lauren Taylor going 1-2 with 1 double, Erica Whitaker going 1-2 with 1 run, Sarah Knudsen going 1-4 with 1 RBI, Chelsea Conrade going 1-3, and Cheyanne Harper going 1-2. Pitcher Kate Tyree added 4 strikeouts in 5 innings.

The Scots finish the season12-39-1 overall 5-29 in Conference.

Thu, May 3, 2012 - [Softball]

Jackson, TN. - 5/2/2012- The Lyon College softball team took on the Bulldogs of Union University in first round of TranSouth Conference Tournament and were defeated 11-2.

The Scots were led by Lauren Taylor going 1-2 with 1 RBI, Valerie Howell going 1-2 with 1 run, and Kaitlyn Patterson going 1-2. Pitcher Tara Mitchell added 2 strikeouts to the mix.

The Scots will play on May 3rd at 4pm against Blue Mountain College in Jackson, Tennessee.


The Scots are now 12-38-1 overall 5-28 in Conference.

Tue, May 1, 2012 - [Women's Soccer]

Head Coach Ben Parman signs another former Arkansas Rush player Kara Blackwell to his 2012 class. Blackwell a native of Conway, Arkansas and will be joining current teammate Brittanie Ashcraft, as they look to reunite with Coach Parman and begin their journey with the Scots.

Kara has played for the Arkansas Rush for the past 5 years. And is a current member of the Conway High School varsity soccer team. During the past 3 season, Conway High School has won 3 consecutive conference championships and won the 2011 Arkansas State High School Championship.

Coach Parman stated "I am excited that I have the opportunity to work with Kara. Kara is going to be a dynamic player in our midfield, and I look for her to use her experience to help our squad in 2012!"

Kara plans to major in Biology and then go on to Physical Therapy school after her four years at Lyon.

Lyon College hosted its annual Athletic Awards Night on April 27, 2012 in the Lyon Dining Center. Team members were recognized and presented their awards for outstanding accomplishments for the 2011-12 seasons. President Donald Weatherman recognized and presented a plaque to Coach Tracy Stewart Lange for leading the women's basketball team to its first ever NAIA National Tournament appearance.

Athens, AL- 4-24-2012- Lyon College women's golf competed in the TranSouth Conference Tournament this week in Athens, AL.

Bobbie Jo Cooper led the Scots tying for 8th place shooting (85-89) +30. Kaitlyn Duncan tied for 12th shooting 88-90 +34.

Ashley Scism of Trevecca Nazarene placed first with a score of 81-76 +13.

Athens, AL- 4-24-2012- Lyon College men's golf competed at TranSouth Conference Tournament this week in Athens, AL.

Justin Long led the Scots placing 27th (78-85-80) (+27) out of 42 competitors from 8 of the TranSouth institutions.

Michael Shedd tied for 28th shooting (88-79-77) (+28) and Nathan Whitlow tied for 31st shooting an (86-84-77) +31.

Jack Hays placed 41st shooting (105-102-113).

Joey Bradley of Trevecca and Brett Barry tied for first. Joey shot (70 68 75) 213 -3 while Brett Barry of Union University -TN shot (70 73 70) 213 -3.

Lyon College men's soccer is pleased to add Barry Burse to the 2012 squad. Burse is a native of Memphis, Tennessee. Burse played for Tennessee Rush FC.

JACKSON, Tenn. - The TranSouth Scholar Athletes list for baseball has been released and 104 players have earned the academic award. To be considered for the TranSouth Scholar Athlete award, a student-athlete must have a 3.0 GPA and must be at least a sophomore academically. To earn the NAIA Scholar Athlete award*, a student athlete must have a 3.5 GPA, be at least a junior academically, and must have completed one full year at their institution.
