ST. LOUIS, Mo. – Three members of the Lyon College men's basketball team were recognized for their hard work in the classroom during Thursday night's during pregame ceremonies in the Carl and Deloris Petty Sports and Recreation Complex, prior to the Scots' American Midwest Conference Men's Postseason Tournament quarterfinal contest against Missouri Baptist University.
Lyon senior Slater Belew (Chattanooga, Tenn.), along with junior Stephon Martinez (Bonne Terre, Mo) and sophomore Marcus Williams (Jacksonville, Ark.) have been named to the AMC Academic All-Conference squad. They were recognized along with seven members of the Missouri Baptist University team prior to the Spartans' 79-77 win over the Scots.
Lyon ended the season with a 9-20 record.
To qualify as a member of the elite squad, a student-athlete much carry a cumulative grade-point average of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale and must have been a member of the program for the entire year.
There were 109 student-athletes among the 19 conference men and women's basketball programs that earned academic all-conference for the 2012-13 season.
Nine members of the Lyon College women's basketball team were named to the team on Wednesday during pregame ceremonies before the Scots knocked off the MBU women, 79-62, as the Lyon recorded its 12th straight game and 19 in its last 20 games. The Scots have won a school-record 28 games this season and now stand at 28-3 on the year.
