BATESVILLE, Ark. - More than 60 Lyon College athletes arrived on campus Friday as the school's men's and women's soccer teams, along with the volleyball squad began their respective training camps for the upcoming season.

Ray Green welcomed 18 players to the team's first practice Friday night as the Scots look to improve on last year's 13-23 finish. Lyon will begin three-a-day practices on Saturday as the Scots work toward their Aug. 24 season opener against Mid-Continent University at the Williams Baptist College Opening Day Jamboree in Walnut Ridge.

Lyon's first home match will come on Labor Day weekend when the Scots host Freed-Hardeman on Sept. 1 in Becknell Gymnasium.
Twenty female soccer players reported to second-year Lyon coach Ben Parman as the squad had a team meeting before participating in run testing Friday night. Regular practices will begin on Saturday for the Scots as they get set to host the University of Arkansas-Little Rock on Monday at 3 p.m. in scrimmage action.
The Scots will then host the Arkansas Rush U-18 club team on Friday, Aug. 17, in Lyon College's second scrimmage of the year (3 p.m.) before LC opens the regular season on the road on Aug. 22 against nationally ranked Martin Methodist (7 p.m.).
The Lyon College women's soccer team is coming off a 10-9 mark a year ago.
Despite being on the job less than a week, Michael Brookshire welcomed 23 members of the Lyon College men's soccer team on Friday as the squad had a team meeting, went through a running test and readies itself for a intersquad scrimmage on Saturday morning at 8 a.m.
The Scots, who were 9-8-2 a year ago, are scheduled to host the Arkansas Rush Club team on Tuesday at 3 p.m. at Huser Field and then open the season on Aug. 25 in Clarksville against the University of the Ozarks in a 2 p.m. start.
