BATESVILLE, Ark. - Lyon College head softball coach Kristen Kolter signed another strong recruit for the 2013 season when she inked Harmony Grove standout catcher/middle infielder Macy Coffee to a letter of intent late last week.

Coffee is a three-time Arkansas Class 3A All-State and All-Conference 5 player for the Cardinals, claiming the honors during her sophomore, junior and senior seasons. She also earned State All-Tournament recognition during her sophomore season.

After her junior season, Coffee played in the Junior Classic as a reward for her outstanding play. She also received Honorable Mention All-Conference 5-3A during her freshman season. She wasn't able to complete that season due to a broken thumb.

"Macy is a really strong kid," said Kolter this week. "She has a real strong arm. She has, in my opinion, what I call a deceiving quickness about her. She has great leadership capabilities, including a good attitude and work ethic.

"She tends to be a leader by example. She can be quiet at times, so we'll try to ‘pull' more out of her and help her be more vocal because she's a catcher."

Lettering all four years of high school, Coffee won a RBI Award her sophomore season after finishing with 35 runs driven in. She was the RBI Award again her junior year after pushing 40 runs across the plate.

"A catcher has to be the commander-and-chief on the field and she is all that," Kolter said of her new recruit. "They see everything better than anybody on the field because they have the best view. And I expect her to be a great contributor to our program in the next four years."

Kolter was told about Coffee's ability and the Lyon College coach brought her to campus to see how good she is first-hand. She wasn't disappointed by her production during the tryout and at the Lyon Softball Camp held in early May, with Coffee finally signing on the dotted line.

Macy is the daughter of Charlie and Shelley Platt.
