John Krueger named Sports Information Director at Lyon

BATESVILLE, Ark. - A 32-year veteran of collegiate sports public relations and print media, John Krueger has joined the Lyon College Athletics staff as the institution's full-time Sports Information Director, Athletics Director Kevin Jenkins has announced.


Krueger, 49, is the primary media contact for the nine varsity sports at Lyon College. He is in charge of administering the school's athletic website (www.lyonscots.com) as well as the Athletic Department's Facebook and Twitter pages. Krueger is responsible for coordinating all athletics media activities, including tracking game statistics, setting up press conferences and interviews, as well as producing press releases, game programs and media guides for the Scots. He will also be in charge of tracking statistical records in for the athletic teams at Lyon.


"John brings a solid work ethic and a standard of excellence that will contribute greatly to the overall development of the Athletics Department," Jenkins noted. "We are excited that John has joined our staff and are looking forward to a great year of Scots athletics."


Krueger attended Stephen F. Austin State University in Nacogdoches, Texas, and began working in the print media as sports editor of The Daily Sentinel. During his career he has worked at five newspapers in Texas, Maryland and Delaware with 19 years of experience as an editor and sports editor.


He began his work in sports information at Stephen F. Austin in 1989, tracking statistics for the Lumberjacks' 1989 NCAA Division I-AA national runner-up football team. While at SFA he also worked at a NCAA Division I-A Women's Midwest Regional playoff.


Krueger served as the first full-time Sports Information Director at Rockford College (Division III) in Rockford, Illinois from 1999-2002, where he served for three years, overseeing the school's 13 varsity sports. For two of those years he also served simultaneously as the SID for the Northern Illinois-Iowa Conference, which Rockford was a member. While serving in that position he designed the league's first-ever website.


He became Sports Information Director at Salisbury University (Division III) in Salisbury, Maryland from 2004-06, where he worked with 21 varsity sports. During his tenure there, Salisbury captured 18 conference championships and four national titles, two in men's lacrosse and two in women's field hockey. In each year of his service, Salisbury finished in the top 15 nationally in the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) Learfield Sports Director's Cup, which is an award given by the NACDA to the colleges and universities in each NCAA and NAIA division with the most overall success in collegiate athletics.


For the past three years Krueger has owned and operated a sports marketing website in East Texas, covering 10 high schools and two colleges. The site grew to 4,200 pages in size in three years, attracting an average of 4,400 hits per day.
