Batesville,AR. - 2/7/2012- The Lyon College Baseball team opened their home 2012 season with a non-conference opponent, Evangel University. The Scots took game one today with Clarke Smithson's game winning walk off double in the bottom of the 7th to win 3-2 . Visiting Evangel rebounded and took game two 4-1. The Scots are now 4-1 overall.
In game one the Scots broke open the lead with a two run homerun in the bottom of the 2nd 2-0. Evangel came back and tied the game in the top of the 6th to tie the game 2-2. In the bottom of the 7th Will Lindsey reached base on four straight balls. Roger Glaude would then advance Lindsey on a bunted ball. Then after Chris Kennedy was intentionally walked, Smithson would double to left field bringing Lindsey in across home plate for the game winning run leading the Scots to their first home win of the 2012 season 3-2. The Scots were led by Michael Armentaros going 1-2 with 2 RBI's. Brenden Camp (0-0) was the winning pitcher going 5.14 inning allowing only 4 hits, 2 runs, 2 walks, and 1 strike out. The winning pitcher Kyle Matthews (1-0) went 1.21 allowing only 1 hit.
In game two of the day, the Scots were led by Mickey Sepanek going 1-4 with 1 RBI. Starting pitcher Ryan Vericker (0-0) pitched a solid 6 innings giving up 1 run on 4 hits and striking out 1. The Scots took the early lead in the bottom of the 4th inning with Bryan Lynn singling to left, followed by Smithson singling to right advancing Lynn to third, while Sepanek singled to left allowing Lynn to score. But Evangel would come back to tie the game in the top of the 6th and that's how the game would remain until extra innings where Evangel would score 3 runs in the top of the 8th to win the game 4-1.
The Scots return to action on February 11th at 12noon on their home field with a double header against Hillsdale Baptist. Go Scots!
