Bartlesville, OK. - 2/4/2012- The Lyon College Baseball team opened the 2012 season with a non-conference opponent, Oklahoma Wesleyan University. The Scots took game one on Friday February 4th 11-1. On Saturday the Scots took the double-header 16-2, 7-5 to sweep the Eagles.
In game one the Scots were led by the Sophomore winning pitcher Talan Roepcke (1-0) throwing 5 innings giving up only 1 run on 3 hits and striking out 2. Junior Colton McSpadden and Sophomore Ryan Vericker both pitched one inning a piece giving up 0 runs. Junior Henry Castaigne was 3-5 on the day with a double, 2 RBI's, 2 runs scored, and a stolen base. The Scots scored 7 runs in the 3rd inning and never looked back.
On day two of the series, the Scots were led by Freshman Brandon Haller (1-0) pitching 6 2/3 innings while Junior Kyle Matthews finished the game on the mound. Castaigne was 3-5 with 2 doubles, 5 RBI's, and 2 runs scored. Junior Colby Rogers was 5-6 with 2 doubles, 4 RBI's and 2 runs scored. Junior Caleb Durant was 2-3 with 4 runs scored. The Scots scored 6 runs in the 2nd inning and 8 runs in the 7th inning.
In game three Senior Trent Weeks (1-0) was the winning pitcher. Sophomore Brendon Camp, Colten McSpadden, and Kyle Matthews threw in relief. The offensive star of the game was Sophomore Clarke Smithson with a 2 run single in the 1st inning scoring both Castaigne and Junior Bryan Lynn.
The Scots return to action on February 7th at 12noon on their home field with a double header against Evangel University. Go Scots!
