Batesville, AR. -2/4/2012 - The Lyon College Women's Basketball team defeated the Mid-Continent University Cougars this evening 77-55. The Scots went into halftime leading 40-36. The Scots played a solid offensive game and finished off the Cougars with a 22 point lead. The Scots are now 7-3 in TranSouth Conference play, sitting in third place, and 18-6 overall.

The Scots had five players in double digit points tonight: Christine Smith led the team for the second straight night with 15 points, Phagen Altom with 14 points and 5 assists, Lauren Ramsey with 12 points and 7 rebounds, while Debbie Onukwube and Suzanne Fincham added 12 apiece. The Scots shot 46% from the field while going 91% from the free throw line. The Cougars shot 33% from the field while going 67% from the free throw line.

Head coach Tracy Stewart-Lange commented after the win " We went into this game telling them we just had to take care of business today and in order to do that we had to defend them well for 40 minutes. They had 20 offensive rebounds on us at their place so I was pleased that wasn't a factor today. We defended them well in the first half, they just hit shots. Our second half was really strong and considering our week of travel, I thought the whole team showed a lot of toughness to finish the week with a win. It was good to see our posts bounce back from Thursday and have such a strong game and it was great to get our 3-point shooting going. We have to have that inside/out balance on offense.

The Scots are back in action on their home court against Conference foe Union University on Thursday February 9th. Tip off is set for 6pm in Becknell Gymnasium. Go Scots!
