Lebanon,TN. - 2/2/2012- The Lyon College Women's Basketball team fell to conference opponent Cumberland University this evening 53-61. The Scots were down 21-24 at halftime and could not outlast the Bulldogs. The Scots are now 6-3 in Conference and 17-6 overall.
The Scots were led this evening by Junior
Christine Smith with 18 points, Junior guard
Phagen Altom picked up 15 points, and Junior guard
Debbie Onukwube dished in her share with 11 points for the Scots. The three combined for 44 out of the total 53 points in the game.
Head Coach
Tracy Stewart-Lange stated after the loss " Cumberland hit big shots both halves and we hit some big shots but they just hit more. We didn't finish shots in the paint and didn't pull big rebounds down the stretch. It's a disappointing loss but we have to bounce back quickly. We have to have more production out of our post play".
The Scots shot 31% from the field and 94% from the free throw line. Cumberland was led this evening with a double-double by Simone Ryan producing for the Bulldogs with 17 points and 10 rebounds. The Bulldogs shot 43% from the field and 72% from the free throw line.
The Scots are back in Transouth Conference action this Saturday February 4th at 2pm in Becknell Gymnasium to battle the Cougars of Mid-Continent. Go Scots!
