Batesville,AR. - 1/26/2012- The Lyon College Women's Basketball team upsets the No. 1 team in the Nation Freed-Hardeman University tonight in Becknell Gymnasium defeating the Lions 48-43. The Lions currently sit at No. 2 in TranSouth Conference play with a record of 6-1 while the Scots are sitting No. 3 with a record of 5-2. The Scots are now 16-5 overall.

The Scots were lead this evening by Junior guard Phagen Altom with 16 points, going 5-9 from the field and shooting a perfect 5-5 from the free throw line. Senior forward Lauren Ramsey picked up her second double-double scoring 11 points and 11 rebounds, while Junior forward Suzanne Fincham dished in 11 points shooting 5-7 from the field.

The Scots shot 51% from the field and a perfect 100% from the free throw line. Freed-Hardeman was led this evening by starting guard Ashley Tate producing for the Lions with 10 points. Despite the 22-10 turnover ratio the Scots battled defensively keeping the Lions to shooting only 30% from the field. The Scots also out rebounded the Lions 37-27.

Assistant Coach Julie Church commented after the exhilarating win stating "Tonight was just a great team effort. We had big plays from several people. Our defense was on another level tonight and we really did a good job of slowing down their leading scorer, Natalie Shumpert. Phagen was on her most of the night and did a great job. We also out rebounded them by ten. That was a big key for us going into the game and we did a good job keeping them off of the offensive boards. I'm just so proud of our team and the way they prepared this week. This was a big win for our program over the No. 1 team in the nation".

The Scots are back in Transouth Conference action as they travel to Mississippi this Saturday January 28th at 2pm to battle the Blue Mountain Toppers. Go Scots!
