BATESVILLE, Ark. – The Lyon College volleyball team (9-9, 1-3 AMC) is set to host their lone Tri-Match this season on Friday, when they welcome Hannibal-LaGrange and College of the Ozarks (Mo.) to James C. Becknell Gymnasium. The Scots will take on the Trojans at 2 p.m. in a conference match, followed by a game against the Bobcats at 6 p.m. Hannibal-LaGrange and College of the Ozarks will also play each other in between Lyon's scheduled matches, at 4 p.m.
Lyon is coming off of a 3-0 (25-15, 25-19, 25-15) sweep over Philander-Smith College (Ark.) on Wednesday night at home.
Hannibal-LaGrange: The Trojans will play on the road against Central Baptist Thursday night, before traveling to Batesville. Currently, HLG is 3-14 overall and 0-2 in the AMC, and has lost seven straight matches, most recently a 3-0 setback to Lawrence Tech University (Mich.) on Saturday. Shelby Maupin leads the team with 136 kills and 31 total blocks and is tied for the team lead with 17 service aces. Taylor Fry is second on the squad with 75 kills and Maggie Vert has 60. Claire Maupin has a team high 253 assists and Hannah Killian has 198 digs.
College of the Ozarks: The Bobcats are an NAIA Division II institution and are receiving votes in the NAIA Top 25 Poll. They currently sit at 18-3 on the season and have won five straight matches – most recently a 3-1 decision over Lawrence Tech on Saturday. Alex Spears leads the Bobcats with 241 kills, while Danielle Curnes is second with 222. Rielly Dobbs has a team high 776 assists and Haley Stallings leads the team with 422 digs. Kayli Grant has a team high 30 service aces and 66 total blocks.
Lyon has two players with at least 100 kills in Chelzie Ulu (SR/Hilo, Hawaii) (155) and Iva Popovic (JR/Novi Sad, Serbia) (127). Jordan Dabdub (SO/Fort Smith, Ark.) leads the Scots with 321 assists and Ellie Embry (SO/Huntsville, Ark.) is second with 202 assists. Madisson Williams (JR/Hot Springs, Ark.) leads the team with 305 digs, while Michayla Shanks (SO/Republic, Mo.) is second with 150. Williams also has a team high 33 service aces, which leads the conference, while Popovic is fifth in the AMC with a .269 hitting percentage. Popovic also has a team high 44 total blocks and Ulu is second with 35.
Hannibal-LaGrange: Lyon is 4-2 all-time against the Trojans, last playing them on Oct. 7, 2016. The Scots won 3-0 (25-19, 25-20, 25-18 inside Becknell Gymnasium. Lyon is 2-2 at home all-time against HLG.
College of the Ozarks: The Scots are 0-7 all-time against the Bobcats. The Scots and Bobcats met this season on Aug. 29 in Point Lookout, Mo. resulting in a 3-0 (25-17, 25-14, 25-8) decision for College of the Ozarks.
Lyon will host Crowley's Ridge College (Ark.) and Central Baptist next weekend on Friday and Saturday. The Scots and Pioneers will play Friday at 7 p.m. Lyon and Central Baptist will then play Saturday at 1 p.m.
