HATTIESBURG, Miss. – Monday marks the beginning of the NAIA Baseball National Tournament Opening Round, where the fourth-seeded Lyon College baseball team (34-22) will begin their quest to the Avista NAIA World Series in Lewiston, Idaho on May 26. Lyon was placed in the Hattiesburg Bracket, and the opening round is a double-elimination format.
The first challenge awaiting the Scots is No. 5 seed Louisiana State University-Alexandria. Both teams will play in the first game of the day at Milton Wheeler Field at 9 a.m., on the campus of William Carey University (Miss.).
Lyon is making their third overall national tournament opening round appearance, and is 3-4 overall in the National Tournament Opening Round.

Taking a Look at the Rest of the Hattiesburg Bracket
Southeastern University: The Fire earned a bid into the National Tournament after winning The Sun Conference Tournament. Southeastern is 48-9 overall and is the No. 1 overall seed in the bracket. They are also making their third overall appearance, with a 2-4 overall mark in the opening round. The team finished the regular season ranked eighth in the NAIA Top 25 Poll, and has won four of their last five games this season.
Texas Wesleyan University: Texas Wesleyan earned an At-Large berth into the National Tournament, and is the No. 2 overall seed with a 45-13 record on the season. The Rams are part of the Sooner Athletic Conference and will be making their fifth overall appearance in the Opening Round. Texas Wesleyan holds an overall record of 8-8. Texas Wesleyan also finished the regular season ranked in the NAIA Top 25 Poll, sitting at No. 12. The Rams fell in the Sooner Athletic Conference Tournament to Oklahoma City, 15-14.
William Carey University: The Crusaders are the host team for the opening round, and third overall seed. William Carey is a member of the Southern States Athletic Conference, and received an At-Large berth into the National Tournament. William Carey would eventually fall to Faulkner University (Ala.) in the conference tournament in the semifinals. The Crusaders also finished the season ranked in the NAIA Top 25 Poll at No. 20, and have won three of their last four games. This will be the fifth overall appearance for the Crusaders in the Opening Round, as they have also posted an even 8-8 all-time mark.
LSU-Alexandria: The Generals are a member of the Red River Athletic Conference and are 33-22 on the season. LSU-Alexandria enters the Opening Round after winning the RRAC regular season, and also finished the season receiving votes in the NAIA Top 25 Poll. The team was then swept in their conference tournament, falling in two straight games, which in turn eliminated them. This is also the team's third appearance in the National Tournament as they hold a 2-4 overall record.
Logan Constantine leads the team with a .388 batting average, 19 doubles, 36 RBI and 28 stolen bases on the season. Trace Oliva and Taylor Faulk follow Constantine with .344 and .326 batting averages, respectively. Constantine and Oliva are also tied for the team lead of 45 runs scored on the year. Constantine and Ziggy Sloan each lead the Generals with six home runs apiece, while Blake Garrett has five.
Fernando Martinez leads LSU-Alexandria with an 8-2 record on the mound, while Cole Feazell is 7-2. Garrett has a team leading 3.92 earned run average, while Feazell leads the team with 67 strikeouts.
Leading the Scots
Andrew Sauceda (pictured below left) (JR/Las Cruces, N.M.) continues to lead the Scots with a .344 batting average, while Kyle West (SO/Lewisville, Texas) is batting .319 and Will Lindsey (SR/Batesville, Ark.) is posting a .315 mark. Keegan Floyd (SR/Bartlett, Tenn.) is also batting over .300 with a .309 average on the season. West also has a team high 51 runs scored and 20 doubles on the season. Lindsey leads Lyon with seven home runs on the year and Jordan Braswell (JR/Kennedale, Texas) has a team leading 43 RBI and 10 stolen bases. Tyler Houston (SR/Cherry Valley, Ark.) is second on the team with eight stolen bases, followed by seven from Tucker Harris (JR/Paragould, Ark.).
In the pitching rotation, Tyler Tognarine (JR/Cape Coral, Fla.) leads the staff with a 10-5 overall record and 2.09 earned run average. He has also thrown 10 complete games and has recorded 83 strikeouts. Trenton Coles (pictured below right) (SR/Cave City, Ark.) is 6-2 on the season, while Reese Chovanec (FR/Magnolia, Texas) is third on the team with five wins.
If Lyon defeats the Generals, they will play top-seeded Southeastern, Monday afternoon at 3 p.m. If Lyon loses, they will play the victim of Texas Wesleyan/William Carey on Tuesday at 9 a.m.
