BATESVILLE, Ark. – The Lyon College softball team (11-10, 1-0 American Midwest Conference) is set to host Hannibal-LaGrange in their home conference opener on Saturday, as the two teams will play a doubleheader at Howard & Mary House Field. The first game is slated to begin at 12 p.m., with the second contest to follow immediately after.
The Scots have had a long break since their last game, after shutting out Harris-Stowe 11-0 on Mar. 9, in which the game lasted just five innings. Nicole Sanders (JR/Pineville, La.) was tremendous on the mound for Lyon as she threw a no-hitter and struck out nine batters. Whitney Reeves (FR/Floral, Ark.) and Skyler Burke (SO/Yucaipa, Calif.) each had two RBI's, while Reeves, Rachel Norman (JR/Livermore, Calif.) and Haley Huffstuttler (SR/Wynne, Ark.) scored two runs apiece.

Hannibal-LaGrange is 9-9 overall and 2-0 in the AMC after sweeping Central Baptist Friday. Haley Zeier leads the squad with a .404 batting average, while Jenna Duckworth is batting .385. Zeier also leads the team with four doubles, and is one of four Trojans to hit a home run this season. McKenzie Marshall and Jordyn Alford lead the team with eight RBI's apiece. Madison Ingram is the top pitcher for HLG as she boasts an undefeated 4-0 mark and 1.39 earned run average.
Lyon and HLG have met 10 times overall, with the Scots winning four of the 10 all-time contests. Last season HLG took a doubleheader away from Lyon, winning 4-3 and 6-4. The Scots however, won a doubleheader against the Trojans on Mar. 29, 2015 by scores of 10-0 and 11-3. The series dates back to Feb. 19, 2011 when Lyon shutout HLG 4-0.
Leading the Scots
Rachel Norman (pictured below left) leads the Scots with a .378 batting average, while Cheyenne Herrera (FR/Colorado Springs, Colo.) and Tess Hurley-Brown (SR/Batesville, Ark.) are right behind her each batting .375. Hurley-Brown, Katelyn Thomason (FR/Searcy, Ark.), Allie Lewis (JR/Bettendorf, Iowa), Cheyenne Black (FR/Crosby, Texas) and Rayven Cannon (SR/Chandler, Ariz.) have each hit one home run for the Scots. Thomason also leads the team with 16 RBI's, while Hurley-Brown and Nicole Sanders each have 12 runs batted in.
Sanders and Kaitlyn Guevara (JR/San Jose, Calif.) (pictured left) lead the pitching staff, with Sanders posting a 6-6 record and Guevara recording a 5-4 overall record. Sanders has a team best 2.56 ERA and 64 strikeouts. Sanders has also thrown 10 complete games with three shutous, while Guevara has pitched eight complete games and one shutout.
Up Next For the Scots
Lyon will play a makeup game against the University of Central Arkansas on Wednesday in Conway, Ark., at 6 p.m. The Scots then resume conference play when they travel to William Woods on Mar. 24 and Park on Mar. 25.
