ST. LOUIS, Mo. – Lyon College softball pitcer Nicole Sanders (JR/Pineville, La.) has been named the American Midwest Conference softball Pitcher of the Week, the conference office announced on Monday. This is Sanders's second player of the week honor of her career and first this season.
Despite Lyon playing in just one game last week, Sanders made the most of it by throwing a five inning no-hitter on the road against Harris-Stowe. The Pineville, La., native allowed just two baserunners to reach base by error, and struck out nine in the game as the Scots defeated the Hornets 11-0. The game lasted just five innings due to the run rule.
The AMC softball player of the week was awarded to Hannah Campbell of William Woods.
Campbell hit .632 (12-for-19) in six games last week. She also had two doubles, three RBI's and scored eight runs as the Owls went 4-2 in the long stretch.
So far this season Sanders is 6-6, but has just a 2.56 earned run average over 71.0 innings of work. She has also struck out 64 total batters (ranked second in the AMC) and is allowing just a .242 opponent batting average, while throwing 10 complete games and three shutouts.
The Scots have won four of their last six games, and are 11-10 on the season.
Lyon will continue their long AMC stretch as they next host Hannibal-LaGrange on Saturday. The doubleheader will begin at 12 p.m. at Howard & Mary House Field.
