BATESVILLE, Ark. – The 10th-ranked and No. 2 seed Lyon College women's basketball team did not have any problem in defeating the 11th-ranked and third-seeded Columbia College Friday night inside James C. Becknell Gymnasium, 71-52. Columbia could not buy a basket as the Scots held them to just 27.1 percent from the field in the game.
Kiara Moore (SR/Little Rock, Ark.) finished one point shy of her season high with 28 points, while Elliot Taylor (SR/Cabot, Ark.) (pictured below left) posted 11 points. Sarah Elkins (SO/Greenwood, Ark.) finished just shy of her second straight double-double as she added eight points and nine rebounds.
Columbia was led by Raegan Wieser's 14 points and Morgan Brandt's 12 points.
Lyon is now 27-4 overall on the season and advances to the AMC Tournament Championship. Columbia falls to 26-6 overall and will await their fate in the upcoming NAIA National Tournament. The Scots will move on to face No. 1 seed Freed-Hardeman after the Lions defeated No. 5 seed William Woods 67-57 Friday night in Henderson, Tenn.
BY THE NUMBERS
90.0 – The Scots shot 90.0 percent from the free throw line going 18-for-20 overall. Moore finished 9-for-11, while Taylor and Kelsey Smith (SR/Little Rock, Ark.) each went perfect from the charity stripe. Taylor finished 5-for-5, while Smith went 2-for-2.
40.4 – Lyon shot 23-of-57 from the field going 40.4 percent in the game. The Scots once again held another opponent to a low percentage, as Columbia went 16-of-59 for just 27.1 percent.
44 – Lyon grabbed 44 total rebounds on the night as Elkins led the team with nine and Madison Riley (FR/Judsonia, Ark.) (pictured below right) grabbed six. Moore, Taylor, Smith and Gracen Ratliff (FR/Batesville, Ark.) each finished with five rebounds.
40 – After taking a 31-17 lead into the locker room, the Scots pushed their lead even further scoring 40 points in the entire second half. Lyon finished the fourth quarter with 21 points to close out the game.
Lyon's defense was great all night as they held Columbia to a low percentage throughout the game. The Scots and Cougars were close in the first quarter, but Lyon would take an 18-10 lead after one period.
Lyon then held Columbia to just seven points in the second quarter, as they scored 13 points themselves to take a 31-17 lead at halftime. Lyon would hold a 40-27 lead in the third quarter, before closing out the period on a 10-7 run to take a 52-30 lead into the fourth.
The Scots then ran away with the game in the fourth quarter, scoring 21 points. Despite Columbia scoring 19 points in the period, Lyon had already ran away with the game and defeated the Cougars.

Lyon advances to the AMC Tournament Championship and will travel to Freed-Hardeman on Monday. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m.
