HANNIBAL, Mo. – The 10th-ranked Lyon College women's basketball team came out hot against Hannibal-LaGrange Thursday night as they sprinted past the Trojans 85-43, behind four Scots scoring in double-figures. The Scots held a 20-point lead at halftime, before holding the Trojans in check the rest of the way, as HLG was only able to score 13 second half points.
Kiara Moore (SR/Little Rock, Ark.) led Lyon with 23 points, while Ali Tucker (SO/Jonesboro, Ark.) finished with 14 points, surpassing 300 for her career. Madison Riley (FR/Judsonia, Ark.) pitched in 13 points and Elliot Taylor (SR/Cabot, Ark.) posted her fifth career double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds.
Hannibal-LaGrange was led by Sarah Cline's 19 points, while Kenna Greenway chipped in 12.
Lyon improves to 22-4 overall and 18-3 in the AMC, while Hannibal-LaGrange drops to 3-24 overall and 3-19 in the conference. The win for Lyon clinches a home game for the Scots in the AMC Tournament Quarterfinals, which will take place on March 1. Lyon holds onto the second place spot in the AMC. In other AMC action, No. 1 Freed-Hardeman remained undefeated after defeating No. 12 Columbia 76-64. The Lions are in first place, while the Cougars are now two games back of the Scots in third. William Woods defeated Williams Baptist 73-67, while Harris-Stowe beat Park 78-49.
BY THE NUMBERS
16-of-16 – Lyon hit 100 percent from the free throw line making 16 straight from the charity stripe. Moore, Riley and Allison Tackett (JR/Bauxite, Ark.) each went 4-for-4, while Taylor and Samantha French (SO/Marshfield, Mo.) each went 2-for-2.
9 – The team managed to nail nine three-pointers in the game with Tucker hitting four of them. Moore made three, followed by one from Riley and Tressa Linson (SO/Blue Eye, Mo.). Overall, the Scots shot 9-for-21 for 42.9 percent.
35.8 – Lyon held HLG to 35.8 percent from the field, including just 6-for-25 in the second half. The Trojans were only able to score 13 points in the entire second half.
43.5 – Lyon shot 43.5 percent from the field on 30-of-69 shooting. The Scots shot 55.0 percent in the first quarter making 11-of-20 from the field.
48 – The Scots grabbed 48 rebounds on the night, led by 10 from Taylor. Moore and Riley each had seven boards, followed by four from Gracen Ratliff (FR/Batesville, Ark.), and three by French and Tackett.
Lyon jumped out to a 21-12 lead in the first quarter as Moore and Tackett led the team on a 7-2 run with six minutes left in the period. The Scots would take a 31-16 lead into the second quarter. The Scots continued to extend their lead as they held a 44-24 lead at the 2:28 mark. Lyon would go up 20 points at the break, 50-30.
Lyon opened the third quarter on an 8-0 run before taking a 67-37 lead into the fourth quarter. Tucker then opened the fourth quarter with eight straight points for the Scots, with the team leading the Trojans 75-41 at the 6:58 mark. The Scots extended their lead even further scoring 10 of the game's final 12 points.
WHAT'S AHEAD FOR THE SCOTS
Lyon travels to St. Louis Pharmacy on Friday at 6 p.m. The Scots then return home for their final two regular season contests, starting with Lindenwood-Belleville on Feb. 23 and Harris-Stowe on Feb. 25 for 'Senior Day.'
