ST. LOUIS, Mo. – The American Midwest Conference (AMC) has announced its Wrestler of the Week award for the week ending January 8. For the third time in the last four award periods the honor goes to a Lyon College Scot, as this week's honoree is Troy Mercer (SR/Rockwall, Texas).
Mercer, a 197-pound senior from Rockwall, Texas, is the 15th ranked wrestler in the 197-pound weight class in the NAIA. He posted a 3-0 week at the Bacone College Duals in Muskogee, Okla. over the weekend to improve his record to 28-9 on the season. He opened the Duals with an 11-4 decision over Felipa Nava of Bacone, and he followed that up with a win by fall over Central Baptist College's Zachary Kearney. He was also the beneficiary of a forfeit in the Scots' final dual against Benedictine College (Kan.) in Lyon's final dual of the meet.
The Scots are now 6-9 on the season in dual competition and 1-1 against American Midwest Conference competition. They will be on the road Thursday at 6 p.m. to face No. 3-ranked Williams Baptist College in Walnut Ridge, Ark.
