MUSKOGEE, Okla. – The Lyon College men's wrestling team recorded its first victory over an American Midwest Conference opponent Friday afternoon, claiming a 42-12 win over Central Baptist College in the Palmer Center Gym.
The win was part of a three-dual day for the Scots. Lyon dropped decisions to Bacone College, 38-12, and Benedictine College, 40-12, in matches against two squads receiving votes in the latest NAIA Men's Wrestling Coaches Poll. The Scots are also receiving votes for the Top 25 in that poll.
Three Lyon athletes picked up victories on the mat, with Troy Mercer (SR/Rockwall, Texas) claiming a fall win over Zachary Kearney in the 197-lb. weight class, Tevin Sandoz (FR/Houston, Texas) taking a fall win over William Freeman in the 141-lb. class and Chris Robinson defeating Juan Bustos in a fall in the 157-lb. weight class.
Scots receiving forfeit wins include Christopher Marson (SO/Denham Spring, La.) (125 lbs.), Al Ordonez (149 lbs.), Connor Webber (JR/Houston, Texas) (165 lbs.) and George Scott (FR/Little Rock, Ark.) (174 lbs.).
Lyon's Jonathon Bentley dropped a fall decision to Francisco Joseph in the heavyweight class.

The Lyon men's wrestling team will look for its second consecutive victory over an American Midwest Conference opponent on Thursday when the Scots travel to Walnut Ridge to take on Williams Baptist College in a league dual at 6 p.m.
