ST. LOUIS, Mo. – The American Midwest Conference (AMC) has announced its Wrestler of the Week award for the week ending December 18. The Lyon College Scots picked up a huge win in non-conference dual action on Saturday, and as a result, Jacob Hill has been named as the AMC's Wrestler of the Week.
Hill, ranked No. 9 in the 184-pound weight class and a native of August, Kan., helped the Scots to an upset win over the NAIA No. 9 Missouri Valley College Vikings in the Williams Baptist Duals on Saturday afternoon. Hill grabbed a 5-0 decision over Nicholas Whitehead – the 13th ranked wrestler in the NAIA in the 184-pound weight class – and the victory was key in helping the Scots pull away for the 28-23 dual victory.
Hill, who is 11-1 on the year with five pins, followed up his week of claiming the honor by posting a 3-0 record at the Oklahoma City University/Champion-Hotel Duals on Monday of this week. He posted a pair of victories on the mat and picked up a forfeit win as well.
Hill was the second Scot wrestler to claim AMC Wrestler of the Week honor this season. Connor Webber earned the honor for the Week of November 28 through December 4.
Lyon is currently 5-7 on the season and 0-1 against AMC competition. The Scots will return to the mat on January 7 when they travel to Muskogee, Okla. to take on Bacone College in a women-men dual event.
