OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. – Troy Mercer (SR/Rockwall, Texas) and Jacob Hill (JR/August, Kan.), two upper classmen for the Lyon College men's wrestling team, posted unbeaten 3-0 records in dual action on Monday as the Scots wrapped up the 2016 portion of their schedule by posting a 1-2 record at the Oklahoma City University/Champion-Hotel Duals held in the Freede Center Gym.
The Scots, who are receiving votes for the NAIA Men's Wrestling Top 25 Coaches' Poll, topped (RV) York College (Neb.) in the opener, 30-15, before falling to University of Central Oklahoma's #2 squad, 38-12, and (RV) Hastings College (Neb.), 35-16.
Mercer, who is a senior, won all three of his matches in the 197-lb. weight class, while Hill, a junior, captured two wins on the mat in the 184-lb. class and gained a forfeit victory, as well. Lyon junior Connor Webber (JR/Houston, Texas) had a strong day in the 165-lb. weight class, finishing the day with a 2-1 mark.
LYON 30, YORK COLLEGE (NEB.) 15
The Scots opened action at the OCU Duals strong with a 30-15 win over York College, a team receiving votes in the NAIA Top 25 Wrestling Coaches' Poll. Lyon received four forfeit victories to score 24 points. Christopher Marson (SO/Denham Spring, La.) (125), Tevin Sandoz (FR/Houston, Texas) (141), Roger Gasmann (FR/Little Elm, Texas) (149) and Hill grabbed wins without going on the mat.
Mercer grabbed the other win for Lyon, taking a fall victory in 3:57 over Devaunte Cuba in the 197-lb. weight class.
Taking losses for Lyon were Dustin Miller (JR/Escondido, Calif.) (133), with an 8-5 decision to Oscar Marin, Webber (174) with a fall in 5:11 to Nicholas Meck and Jonathon Bentley (285) with a fall setback in 55 seconds to Jeffery Albers.
CENTRAL OKLAHOMA #2 38, LYON 12
Webber, Hill and Mercer were victorious in Lyon's 38-12 setback to the University of Central Oklahoma's No. 2 squad.
Webber picked up a 10-6 decision over Paden Bailey, while Hill pinned Walker Smith in 6:43 and Mercer grabbed a hard-fought 4-3 decision over Thomas Shepherd.
Scots coming up short included Marson (Maj., 13-3), Miller (Maj., 12-4), Sandoz (Fall, 1:23), Gasmann (Fall, 1:13) and Cordell Spohrer (SO/Slidell, La.) (Fall, 0:18), who competed in the 285-lb. weight class.
HASTINGS (NEB.) 35, LYON 16
Webber, Hill and Mercer were also the Scots who picked up victories in Lyon's 35-16 setback to Hastings College. Webber knocked off Austin Moyer with an 11-3 major decision. Hill took 2:19 to pin Gideon Monette and Mercer added a fall win over Jake Wood in 5:29.
Scots losing their matches included Marson (Dec., 6-1), Miller (Fall, 2:51), Sandoz (Maj., 9-1), Gasmann (Maj., 19-5) and Bentley (Fall, 2:06).

The Lyon men's wrestling team will take some much deserved time off for the Christmas holiday and return to the mat on January 7 when the Scots travel to Muskogee, Oklahoma, to face Bacone College in women-men duals.
