Lyon dropped to 3-6 overall, 2-3 in CSFL action. The Scots are now tied with Bacone University (2-7, 2-3 CSFL) in fourth place in the league with one conference game remaining. Wayland Baptist, which is off to its best start ever, improved to 7-1 overall, winning its sixth straight game. The Pioneers who moved into the NAIA Top 25 Football Coaches' Poll at No. 22, moved into a first-place tie in the conference with a 4-0 league mark. This is the first time WBU has ever been ranked in football. The Pioneers are tied with (RV) Arizona Christian University (5-3, 4-0 CSFL) in first, with the two squads meeting this Saturday in Phoenix, Arizona.
Lyon's Michael Bowles rushed for 121 yards on 20 carries to give him 1,186 yards on the season, which ranks third nationally. Bowles is also averaging 131.8 yards per game, which ranks first in the CSFL and sixth in the nation among NAIA backs.
Coach Phelps also talked about this week's final CSFL game of the year, as the Scots travel to Langston, Okla. on Saturday to take on 25th-ranked Langston University (5-2, 3-1 CSFL). That game will kick off at 2 p.m.
The Scots will then close out the 2016 season on Saturday, Nov. 12, at Missouri Baptist University (2 p.m.).
