PLAINVIEW, Texas – The Lyon College football team ran into a red-hot Wayland Baptist University squad Saturday afternoon, as the Pioneers posted seven scoring drives of 56 yards or more to win their sixth straight game, 52-14, at Greg Sherwood Memorial Bulldog Stadium.
The win, Wayland Baptist's sixth straight, moved the Pioneers (7-1, 4-0 CSFL) into a first-place tie with Arizona Christian University (5-3, 4-0 CSFL) in the Central States Football League standings, as the Pioneers are off to their best start in school history. ACU dropped a non-conference matchup to Warner University, 38-28, on Saturday. WBU will now take on the Firestorm next Saturday in Phoenix, Arizona, with the winner clinching at least a share of the conference title.

The Pioneers, who led 17-7 after the first quarter and then stretched their lead to 31-7 at the half and 52-7 after three quarters, were led by quarterback Mitchell Parsley. Parsley completed 13-of-18 (72.2%) of his throws for 304 yards and four scores. After the teams traded turnovers, the Scots moved 32 yards in just two plays for their first score of the contest. Robinson found Hendrix for a 25-yard scoring connection with 2:37 on the first-quarter clock. Osvaldo Espericueta (SO/Batesville, Ark.)'s point after pulled Lyon to within 10-7.
But it only took the Pioneers two plays to answer after the kickoff. Parsley hit Hayden for a 58-yard touchdown and the WBU lead was increased to 17-7 with 1:49 still remaining in the first period.
Wayland Baptist had scoring drives of 74 and 62 yards in the second quarter to stretch its lead to 31-7 at the break.
Three Lyon turnovers in the third quarter led to a trio of touchdowns by WBU. The first came after a Robinson fumble, and the Pioneers moved 56 in four plays. An interception led to a five-play, 80-yard WBU touchdown drive. Then Josh Paul intercepted a passing and returned it 21 yards for a score, giving Wayland Baptist a comfortable 52-7 lead entering the fourth quarter.
Robinson put the Scots on the board one more time in the fourth quarter. After a 41-yard Espericueta punt, Wayland Baptist's Hayden fumbled a return and Lyon recovered at the WBU 10. The score came from five yards out two plays later.
