Phelps talks about his Lyon Scots football team's 35-21 Central States Football League victory over Texas College on Saturday, October 8, at Pioneer Stadium. The Scots won their second game in a row and third game in their last four outings.
Michael Bowles (SR/Earle, Ark.) led the Lyon ground game with 150 yards and two touchdowns on 23 carries. His rushing yards made Bowles the No. 1 running back in the nation in NAIA with 915 yards. He is also third in the country in all-purpose yards (1,026) and fifth in rushing yards per game (130.7).
Dwane Robinson (SO/Palm Bay, Fla.) added 136 yards rushing and a score on 17 carries, while completing 9-of-19 passes for 142 yards and a pair of scores, as Lyon improved to 3-4 on the season and 2-1 in CSFL action. Robinson now has 522 yards rushing and seven touchdowns, while completing 59-of-107 passes (55%) for 585 yards, four touchdowns and just three interceptions.
Bowles is also the leading Lyon receiver, with 18 catches for 111 yards and two touchdowns. Joe Mahe (JR/Makawao, Hawaii) is second in receptions with 12 for 107, while Jonathan Hendrix (SO/Batesville, Ark.) has pulled in 11 for 81 yards.
DeAngelo Crawford (FR/Jonesboro, Ark.) is the top tackler on the squad with 48 stops, including 11 solos and 2.5 tackles for losses. Cedric Cooney (SO/Lonoke, Ark.) is second in tackles with 46 and Sage Wood (SO/West Plains, Mo.) is third with 40 tackles.
The Scots are now in a three-way tie for second place in the conference standings and will enjoy a bye week this weekend. The Scots will return to the field on Saturday, October 22, when they host defending CSFL champion Arizona Christian University in Lyon's 2016 Homecoming game at 6 p.m. That will be the final home game of the season for the Scots.
